My Parents emigrated to America 30 years ago from Bangladesh, so my brother and i prepare the entire feast! lucky for us all, he makes amazing dishes, so we feast on a traditional gourmet Turkey dinner. I make lots of sides and desserts, though recently, I have been upstaged my brothers friend's FLAN...and in the past few years, more guests have been bringing wonderful desserts to pass.so im thinking of making more sides this year...any ideas?..the house is always full of guests, last year being the biggest...25 people! Yum, I'm drooling at the thought! lol.

My husband and I just got married this past summer so this will be our first Thanksgiving together with our official "families." I'm very excited to celebrate the holiday!

I am from Hawaii, born and raised, and am in Oregon for graduate school. Thanksgiving in Hawaii is awesome. We are all about ohana (family) and we get together and have family time. We sit around the table, say one thing are are thankful for and enjoy each other company. We imu (underground oven) a Turkey, so it takes smoked, sweet potato mashed potatoes, green bean casarole, my mom makes a delicious pumpkin crunch dessert, corn on the cob, , yams, and a lot more delicious food. Unfortunately, since I am up in Oregon for school, I got invited to spend Thanksgiving with a classmate in Sacramento. I cant wait!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday - (plus it is my birthday this year big 42!!) My husband, daughter, step-daughter, step-son, along with our four dogs (all rescues) will be celebrating this year - I make everything from scratch - corn chowder, turkey is from a local farmer 21 lbs, sausage stuffing, turnips, broccoli, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, yams, and lasagna - and lots of red wine!!

Thanksgiving is different every year for us. This will be our first thanksgiving sharing our time with both families. Last year, however, we were on our honeymoon in Florida at a bed and breakfast and we ordered Thanksgiving take out with all the trimmings! The place we were staying set us up with candles and linen napkins on beautiful trays. It was so nice to share our first thanksgiving together!

We kicked off our Thanksgiving celebration yesterday at the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Poolesville, MD. It was Thanksgiving with the Turkeys and a vast vegan potluck. My daughter and I befriended a beautiful white turkey named Opal and fed her lots of grapes!

My earliest memory of Thanksgiving is as a little girl I would help my mother with our Thanksgiving meal. But one of my responsibilities was to decorate & set the table with our best linens, fine china, and silver. I loved this job because it was all mine. I could add decor to suit whatever theme I wanted to portray. Best of all, it allowed me to express my creativity! Today, even though I am married and many new traditions have begun, I still set and decorate the table at my parents every year. I couldn't imagine Thanksgiving any other way.

Also, here is a recipe for a great punch I am making for Thanksgiving. It may not go with the main meal, but we will sip on it throughout the afternoon. Yum!

Mocha Punch

1 1/2 quart water
1/2 cup instant chocolate drink mix (ie. Quick)
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup instant coffee granules
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream
1/2 gallon chocolate ice cream
1 cup whipped cream
chocolate curls

In a large sauce pan bring water to a boil. Remove from heat; add drink mix, sugar and coffee; stir until dissolved. Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight. About 30 minutes before serving, pour into a punch bowl. Add ice cream by scoopfuls; stir until partially melted. Garnish with dollops of whipped cream and chocolate curls.
Enjoy!

We started making this every year at my house a few years ago when we came across the recipe--it's fabulous.

Cranberry Fluff:

2 cups ground, fresh cranberries
3 cups tiny marshmallows
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups diced, unpeeled tart apples
1/2 cup seedless green grapes
1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup either heavy cream or regular whipping cream, whipped

Combine cranberries, marshmallows and sugar. Cover and chill overnight. The following day, add apples, nuts, and grapes, and fold in whipped cream. Chill for at least a half hour before serving.

Thanksgiving is usually a relaxing holiday for my family. We don't go all out and invite the extended family over. It's always just my immediate family: me, mom, dad, and my 2 brothers. We don't have a dining table so we just eat around the TV on the couches. My mom usually cooks the essentials... my favorite is green-bean casserole (hope we get it this year!). We don't stress about Thanksgiving, in fact last year we didn't even cook, we got our dinner from Publix. What-ever way we obtain the food doesn't matter. What really matters is that we are together enjoying the food. Thanksgiving is a time where we all get to be grateful for what we have and most of all, eachother.
